Introduction
Instead of considering the “Lingering Garden” in Suzhou as a separate garden + house, we attempt to understand the experience of a courtyard house where the integration of interior and exterior spaces can and only understood through time. To capture this experience, 8 of the students worked individually and other 4 students worked in pairs to document (using 3D scanning), record (sound and images), and reconstruct (using concrete casting and edited film sequences) 10 details and a particular pathway of the garden from which to retell the story of the house. As a collective project, the analyses exhibited here highlight the issue of perception that is generated through movement within the project.
