Biography

Dr. Chen YANG is an Associate Professor in the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP) at Tongji University. He received a bachelor’s degree (urban planning) from Tongji University, a master’s degree (DPLG) from L'École nationale supérieure d'architecture de Nantes (ENSAN), and a PhD from L'École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in France. He was a visiting scholar at École de Chaillot and ENSA-Paris Belleville, Paris, in 2023–2024. He is the head of the Housing and Habitat Governance Lab at Tongji University. Yang’s research focuses on the x-minute city, neighborhood planning, urban history and urban heritage. He is the author of two books: From Model Community to Monumental Site: A Workers’ Village through History (Tongji University Press, 2019) and Transformation: Conservation and Adaptive Reuse of the Industrial Heritage in Yangpu Waterfronts, Shanghai (Shanghai Culture Publishing House, 2023).
