Research by Design
Aljosa Dekleva
Principal, Dekleva Gregoric Architects
Tina Gregoric
Principal, Dekleva Gregoric Architects
The architectural production of Ljubljana-based Dekleva Gregoric Architects is unavoidably defined by the architectural legacy of the grand Slovene architect Joze Plecnik and his late-modernist successors. Their practice attempts to pursue the concept of ‘research by design’ with work spanning diverse scales, programs and localities, ranging from the University Campus in Slovenia to Clifftop house in Hawaii. Understanding the specific constrains and conditions of the context is crucial for any subtle response and becomes the ultimate generative tool that aims to challenge the obvious and accentuate the materiality.
Aljosa Dekleva and Tina Gregoric are principals of Ljubljana-based architecture studio Dekleva Gregoric Architects, which they established in 2003, just after completing their postgraduate Master degrees at the Architectural Association in London. Their work has received numerous international awards, including Architectural Review House award, Architizer and WALLPAPER* award, among others. Alongside their architectural practice, they are both intensively involved in reshaping approaches to architectural education. Aljosa is the Program Head of the AA nanotourism Visiting School at the Architectural Association in London. Tina is a Professor of Architecture and Chair of the Institute of Architectural Design at the University of Technology Vienna – TUW, Austria. Tina and Aljosa have been recently Frank Gehry International Visiting Chairs in Architectural Design at Daniels, University of Toronto.
