CAUP Faculty and Students Take Multiple Honours at the 2026 ARCASIA Awards

On the evening of 11 September, the 2026 ARCASIA Awards for Architecture (AAA) and the ARCASIA Student's Architectural Design Competition were presented in Jaipur, India, during the 23rd ARCASIA Forum. Faculty, students and collaborating practices of Tongji University's College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP) took several top honours.


ARCASIA Student's Architectural Design Competition — Gold WinnerNew Huotang Isala by Yang Enjian (Class of 2021, Experimental Programme for Interdisciplinary Innovative Talent), supervised by Li Li and Wu Guanzhong. The design answers the competition theme Bringing Back… Vernacular Wisdom by adapting the central hearth of Yunnan–Sichuan dwellings — a traditional device for tempering day–night temperature swings — to contemporary use.

ARCASIA Awards for Architecture More than 700 entries from 21 countries and regions were submitted this year; the jury conferred 11 Gold awards and 16 Honorary Mentions across 11 categories, alongside two Special Awards.

  • A-1 Single-Family Residential — Gold.Red Valley Dwellings, Mile, Yunnan: Meng Fanhao, co-founder and principal architect of line+ and Luke Him Sau Visiting Chair Professor at CAUP.

  • B-3 Public Amenity: Institutional Buildings — Gold.Red Astronomy Education Center, Panzhihua, Sichuan: Wang Yanze, Assistant Professor at CAUP, and Wu Guanzhong, principal architect of TAG Architects.

  • B-3 — Honorary Mention.Anna Pao Sohmen Centre at YK Pao School, Shanghai: Zhu Xiaofeng, Professor in the Department of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong, founding principal of Scenic Architecture Office and a design tutor at CAUP.

  • B-5 Specialised Buildings — Honorary Mention, with the Special Award for Sustainability.Harvest Pavilion, Anjiang, Hunan: Li Li, Professor at CAUP; Xiao Yunfeng of TJAD; and Shen Yifei, a CAUP postgraduate.

  • C Industrial Buildings — Gold.Gulin Maoxi Sauce-Flavoured Baijiu Jiuba Project Supporting Ecological Cultural Tourism Base (Phase I), Maoxi, Sichuan: Jiang Limin, chief architect of TJAD, and Lu Li, deputy general manager of its Chengdu branch.

  • D-2 Adaptive Re-use — Honorary Mention, with the Special Award for Socially Responsible Architecture.The Service Station Under Wuning Road Bridge, Shanghai: Atelier Z+, with Zhang Bin, CAUP adjunct professor-level senior engineer, and Zhou Wei.

  • E Integrated Development — Gold.Comprehensive Development of Hangzhou Binjiang District's Riverside Waterfront in the Post-Asian Games Era: Zhang Ming, Professor at CAUP and Head of its Department of Landscape Architecture, and Chen Bo, chief architect of TJAD's Original Design Studio.
