Research Profile

Yeo Sok Yee is a Singaporean and currently an Associate Professor and core member of the Architectural Conservation Laboratory (ACL) at the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP). Trained in biology at the National University of Singapore, followed by a MA in Historic Building Conservation from the University of York in UK, and a PhD in Architecture from Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Taiwan, China, Sok Yee’s professional experience includes work with the Singapore National Monument – Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery, the Preservation of Monuments Board, and a Taiwan architecture firm before returning to academia as Specially appointed researcher/Associate Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University.  

She is also affiliated to several international and domestic professional institutions, such as the Visiting Professor/Researcher at the School of Architecture Urban Planning and Construction Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI); Expert member for the International Council on Monuments and Sites International Wood Committee (ICOMOS-IWC); Expert member of the World Heritage Specialist Group of the International Union for Conservation of Nature World Commission on Protected Areas (IUCN-WCPA); State voting member of ICOMOS Singapore; and Board and Expert member of the National Architecture Institute of China.

Sok Yee has conducted numerous scientific research and projects on heritage conservation in Singapore, Italy, China, and Japan, with research interests focusing on the structural mechanism of traditional timber structures and the fire resistance of wood; the conservation of polychrome paintings, frescos and sculptures; ecological conservation of earthen structures; and microclimate of historic buildings. She has led two national-level research grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China’s Research Fund for International Excellent Young Scientists (RFIS-II), and the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Research Fund for International Scientists; two provincial or ministerial-level projects, four international projects, and has also led or participated in more than 30 domestic research projects; To-date, she has published more than 70 academic papers, including more than 30 papers in SCI-indexed and authoritative domestic journals as first or corresponding author; and has authored or co-authored five book chapters.

Sok Yee has received numerous personal research and academic awards, including the “Tan Kah Kee Foundation Tan Ean Kiam Postgraduate Scholarship (Humanities)” (2012), the “Excellent Paper Award for Young Scholars” at the International Conference on East Asian Architectural Culture (EAAC; 2017), Shaanxi Provincial Talent Support Plan (2019), and the POLIMI “NEST PROJECT” research funds for International Faculty (2024, 2026).
