Faculty and students from the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP), Tongji University, attended the ICC Academic Symposium during the 2026 UIA World Congress of Architects held in Barcelona. Centered on “International Competitions: Breaking Barriers, Creating Opportunities, Delivering Excellence”, the event gathered global architecture experts for in-depth academic dialogues.
At the symposium, Associate Professor Liu Kan from Tongji CAUP delivered a keynote speech on youth-oriented architectural competitions. He analyzed urban and architectural renewal practices in Shanghai and highlighted the vital role of design competitions in fostering young architects’ growth, winning high international recognition. Notably, entrusted by the UIA, Liu Kan and He Jianwei, UIA-ICC Hong Kong member, led the compilation of the official core manual UIA Architectural Competitions and Awards. Released globally at the conference in simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese and English versions, the publication fills a professional gap and underpins academic exchanges worldwide.
The event also officially launched the 2029 Beijing 30th UIA World Congress and the “Yongding Changan Post” International Youth Architectural Competition. Rooted in Beijing Shougang Park, the competition adheres to UN sustainable development goals and explores high-quality micro-renewal urban design strategies.
This overseas participation fully demonstrates CAUP’s leading academic influence and discourse power in global architecture, marking a new milestone for Chinese architectural academia’s international engagement.
