On June 18, 2026, the forum entitled “Shift and Innovation: New Trends and Practices in International Collaborative Architectural Education” was successfully held at the multi-function hall of Tongji University Architectural Design and Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd. Hosted by the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP) of Tongji University, the event gathered scholars, educators and industry representatives from domestic and international architectural institutions to discuss pedagogical innovation, cross-cultural collaboration and future development of global joint architectural teaching.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Wang Yi. Professor Li Xiangning, Vice President of Tongji University, emphasized that globalization adjustments and artificial intelligence advances are reshaping architectural knowledge systems and talent cultivation models. Subsequent speeches by university and college officials highlighted a pivotal shift of international cooperation from one-way knowledge output to equal two-way contextual mutual learning, and promoted the transformation of collaborative projects into institutionalized co-construction mechanisms.
In the keynote session, experts from China, Kenya, Italy and other countries shared frontier practices. Presentations covered Sino-African joint teaching on heritage conservation, AI-enabled architectural pedagogy, Euro-Chinese cross-border education experiences, and localized international teaching explorations by multiple Chinese universities. The roundtable discussion further addressed cross-cultural challenges and collaborative opportunities.
In the closing speech, Professor Wu Jiang stressed that architectural education should balance technological empowerment and humanistic care to cultivate future architects with global vision and cultural empathy. The forum provides valuable academic references for innovating international architectural teaching and promoting inclusive global architectural education development.
