BIG Atlas: 20 Years, 50 Buildings.
Speaker
Martin Voelkle Parter at BIG
Introduction
The Danish word for design is formgivning — literally, giving form to that which does not yet exist. At BIG, this is the starting point: every project is a chance to give the future a gift, one building at a time.
We work in the overlap between the visionary and the practical — treating them not as opposites but as the same project. Form emerges from program, climate, site, and the people a building will host. When functions mix, new typologies appear. When sustainability is a design challenge rather than a moral obligation, performance and pleasure converge. When a building is climbable, walkable, open to the body before the brain, architecture becomes landscape. Twenty years. Fifty buildings: How do we design and build the world we want to live in?
