Abstract:
China's urban development has entered a post-growth era, in which urban regeneration and urban management are becoming central concerns of urban spatial governance. The statement and directives put forward at the Central Urban Work Conference—calling for a shift in the focus of urban work and greater emphasis on governance investment—further underscore the practical significance of urban spatial governance in this new stage of urban development.
Against this backdrop, what are the defining characteristics of urban spatial governance in the post-growth era? How can these characteristics be identified, summarized, and conceptualized? This lecture explores these questions through three interrelated themes: governance actors and spatial rights, governance processes and temporal cycles, and governance instruments, including policies and data. Drawing on relevant case studies, it offers some preliminary and exploratory reflections on the theory and practice of urban spatial governance in the context of the post-growth era.
