Dean of SUTD’s Architecture and Sustainable Design Pillar Visits CAUP
Release time:2026-05-20

On May 19, 2026, Professor Peng Beng Khoo, Dean of the Architecture and Sustainable Design (ASD) Pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), visited the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP) at Tongji University. Professor Philip F. Yuan, Dean of CAUP, together with representatives from the Office of International Affairs, the Fu Guohua Center for Architecture and Urban Education, and departmental coordinators for international affairs, welcomed the delegation and joined discussions on future collaboration.

During the meeting, the two sides held in-depth exchanges on two proposed initiatives: an integrated undergraduate-to-master’s pathway program and the Global Design Cities Network Executive Education Program. Discussions focused on program positioning, academic articulation, implementation feasibility, resource allocation, and mechanisms for long-term cooperation.

Professor Peng spoke highly of Tongji CAUP’s academic achievements and longstanding reputation in architecture, urban planning, and design education. He expressed his expectation that the two institutions would further strengthen collaboration in talent cultivation, academic exchange, and research. Building on the positive outcomes of the meeting and a strong foundation of previous interactions, both sides conveyed a shared commitment to establishing a long-term and strategic partnership.

Looking ahead, the two institutions plan to advance cooperation through a framework agreement at the college level. Future initiatives are expected to include joint student training programs, executive education projects, academic resource sharing, and collaborative research. These efforts will help create new opportunities for innovation and mutual development while fostering deeper engagement between the two schools.

The visit represents another important milestone in the growing relationship between Tongji University and SUTD. It also lays a solid foundation for broader and more institutionalized collaboration in architecture, design, and sustainable urban development.

The partnership has continued to gain momentum in recent years. In March 2025, a Tongji University delegation met with SUTD President Professor Chua Kee Chaing and faculty representatives from several disciplines to discuss student mobility, joint research, and talent development initiatives. The two universities subsequently signed their first student exchange agreement, opening a new chapter in bilateral cooperation and setting the stage for future collaborative endeavors.
