Abstract:
The lecture reviewed Shanghai’s conservation efforts since it was designated a National Historical and Cultural City in 1986, systematically outlining the city’s three developmental stages: from the preservation of individual buildings to the conservation of entire neighborhoods, and finally to the protection of the city’s overall character. Through case studies of Tianzifang, Xintiandi, Wukang Road, and Zhangyuan, the lecture briefly introduced Shanghai’s practical approaches to revitalizing and utilizing historical features in the context of urban regeneration.
