Abstract:
China’s urban development is shifting from a phase of large-scale expansion to one focused on improving the quality and efficiency of existing urban areas. As key drivers of urban development during the rapid growth period of urbanization, new cities and new districts hold unique research value in the study of contemporary Chinese urban issues. This lecture takes as its starting point the planning, construction, and regeneration of China’s first national-level new district, as well as the site selection, planning, and construction of the country’s newest national-level new district, to explore the characteristics and challenges of China’s new city and new district development, as well as the opportunities and challenges they face at this specific juncture.
