Prof. Ruan Xing is currently Director of Architecture Discipline at the University of New South Wales. He was the Chair of Architecture Discipline Group and the Director of Master of Architecture from 2005 to 2009. Prior to this appointment, he was the Head of Department of Architecture at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Before joining UTS in early 2002, Xing was Associate Professor of Architecture at Curtin University.

Prof. RUAN Xing has published on architecture and anthropology, architectural education, Louis Kahn, China’s modern and contemporary architecture, as well as Australian contemporary architecture. His books have received critical acclaim and enthusiastic appraisal both in academic journals and from some mainstream media outlets around the world.

Prof. RUAN Xing’s essays have appeared in some of the world’s leading academic journals, such as the Journal of Society of Architectural Historians. He is co-editor, with Ronald Knapp, of the book series Spatial Habius: Making and Meaning in Asia’s Architecture published by the University of Hawai’i Press. He has also contributed, as a critic, to professional architecture journals in Australia and China.

Awards and Achievements:

- Third Prize, UIA (the Union of International Architects) International Competition: research papers in Architecture and Urban Design, 2011.

- Curtin University Innovative Teaching Award 2001.

- First Prize, Kunming City Planning Department Competition 1987: design of Hugou Mansion – a 24-storey building complex located in downtown Kunming (with Dongmin Zhao), built between 1988-91.
