Topic:

UCL Bartlett School of Architecture has been consistently ranked among the top three schools of architecture in the world in recent years. Known for its state of the art fabrication technologies, the Bartlett also enjoys the reputation of being one of the most progressive schools in its approach to design. Inside UCL Bartlett is the latest in a series of sessions taking an inside look at the research being undertaken at the leading doctoral research centers in the world.

Alberto Fernández González is an Architect, Academic, and Researcher of the University of Chile, Master in Architecture of University College London, and RIBA Chartered Architect.  His career has been developed between academia and professional practice, exploring the form designed from the local perspective as a contribution to Global issues applying BIM, Generative Design and Digital Fabrication in different scales, internationally recognised by HOLCIM Award Next Generation, Archiprix International, Sunbrella Future of Shade, UIA La Biennale di Venezia and Evolo Skyscrapers, among others.  He has been part of UCH since 2006, where he leads Design Studio 6 - Digital integration and is Tutor for PART 1 Research Seminar unit and PART  2 Graduation Projects design studio.  His work has been published nationally and internationally, and his MPhil/PhD studies are funded by the Chilean Government, UCL, and UCH.  Currently, he is a Digital Design Tutor at UCL The Bartlett School of Architecture on MArch Design for Performance and Interaction, MEng Engineering and Architectural Design, MSci Architecture and MArch AD as Skills Tutor. By 2020 he started as an advisory board member of  Perspectives Journal from the same school. At the same time he is part of Rational Energy Architects, a research and practice collective working with the connection among Artificial Intelligence, Decentralised Solar Economy, BioDesign and Self-generated spaces.

Nikoletta is an architect, PhD Candidate, and Lecturer at The Bartlett School of Architecture. She has a diverse background, working in the industry as a practising architect and in academia as a design tutor at Bristol, Cardiff, Newcastle, and Edinburgh. Her work has been exhibited at the London Design Festival, Dutch Design Week, Lakeside Arts Gallery, and the Baltic Centre of Contemporary Arts. Her key interests lie in architecture, textiles, computation, and material programmability.

Melih Kamaoğlu is an architectural theorist and historian. He is a PhD candidate and Senior Postgraduate Teaching Assistant in the Architecture and Digital Theory programme at Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. He received his BArch in 2017, and a MArch in 2020 from Karadeniz Technical University. He worked as a research assistant at Eskişehir Technical University (ESTU) between 2018 and 2020, where he was a tutor of Basic Design, Introduction to Architectural Design and Architectural Studio courses. His primary research interests include architectural theory/history, computation, evolution theory and philosophy of nature.

Annarita Papeschi is a practising architect, a researcher, and an educator, with a Laurea in Architettura (Università di Firenze, 2003) and a MArch in Architecture and Urbanism (Architectural Association School, 2007). She currently teaches architectural and urban design within the BPro Master in Urban Design and the Master in Engineering and Architectural Design at The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. She is also completing her PhD in Architectural Design at The Bartlett School of Architecture, with a thesis that draws on Gilbert Simondon’s notion of transindividuality to explore the ecological foundation of post-digital participatory design. She was previously a Lead Architect at Zaha Hadid Architects. She is the principal and co-founder of FLOW Architecture (www.flowarchitecture.co.uk), a multidisciplinary research and design practice, working at the intersection of architecture, urbanism, and media art.

Farbod Afshar Bakeshloo is an architect, an urban designer and a researcher. He received his BSc in Architecture from the Shahid Beheshti University and his MSc in urban design from the University of Tehran. Now, he is a PhD candidate in Architectural Space & Computation at the Bartlett School of Architecture (Space Syntax Laboratory). He works on the relationship between space, movement, and function during the transition from the modern city to the contemporary city to understand how people understand and inhabit space. Besides, Farbod is a senior teaching assistant in MArch Part 2 program and a research assistant in the Space Syntax Laboratory at the Bartlett. Previously, he was a tutor and researcher at the University of Tehran and worked s an architect and an urban designer on several projects in Iran.

Chenyang Li is an EPSRC-funded doctoral student at the Space Syntax Laboratory, UCL. His research interests are related to space types/structures of complex public buildings with a focus on museums and art galleries. He holds a BEng in Urban Planning from Hunan University and an MSc in Space Syntax from UCL (distinction).

Before joining The Bartlett, Chenyang was an architect at Hunan Architectural Design Institute. He was also a guest lecturer at Hunan University and Changsha University of Science and Technology for the Space Syntax workshops.
