Tongji University Shines Bright at 2025 Asian Architectural Awards, Clinching Top Prizes

On September 10, 2025, at the ARCASIA Awards for Architecture ceremony held in Incheon, South Korea, Chinese architects made a remarkable impact, securing 6 gold awards, 7 honorable mentions, and 1 special award. Among them, faculty and alumni from the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP), Tongji University, emerged as a dominant Tongji force, clinching five major accolades.

 

The rural public project Heart of Yong'an / Yong'an Academy, designed by Professor Philip F. Yuan's team and implemented by Tongji University's Poverty Alleviation Office, won the Special Award: Sustainability, one of only two such awards presented this year. Professor Li Li's Tibet Art Museum earned a gold award in the D-2 category (Adaptive Reuse Projects). CAUP alumni Ma Dao (Ma Keyuan) and Zhang Haiao received gold and honorable mention awards, respectively, for their projects Peach Blossom Spring and Mulan Weichang Grassland Home. Additionally, Professor Meng Fanhao, a visiting professor under Tongji's Lu Qian Education Fund, was honored with an honorable mention for his Lishui Ancient Weir Art 

Center.

 

 

 

These achievements highlight College of Architecture and Urban Planning and Tongji University's commitment to academic excellence and design innovation. By blending cutting-edge concepts with practical architecture, Tongji's architects have consistently elevated Asian architectural standards, demonstrating deep cultural sensitivity and a drive for sustainability.

The ARCASIA Awards, established annually by the Asian Architects Association, recognize outstanding projects across seven categories, including residential, public, industrial, conservation, mixed-use, social responsibility, and sustainability. This year, 30 projects were selected, including 10 gold awards, 17 honorable mentions, and 3 special awards.
