Release time:2025-06-11

On June 5, 2025, a delegation of 39 members from Sabah Tshung Tsin secondary School in Malaysia, led by its Chairman, Dato' YONG KYOK MING, along with board directors, the principal, and students, visited the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP), Tongji University.

The College' s ffice of International Affairs organized an immersive event combining professional introductions and hands-on practice for the visiting students. Professors Tan Zheng from the Department of Architecture, Shan Lu from the Department of Urban Planning, and Shen Jie from the Department of Landscape Architecture delivered detailed presentations on multiple disciplines, including architecture, historic building conservation, urban design, urban planning, and landscape architecture. These sessions provided students with a preliminary understanding of the College' s academic programs, curricula, and career prospects, sparking their interest in further exploration.

Subsequently, the delegation toured the College' s History Museum and Teaching Innovation Base, observing the preparations for the 2025 Tongji International Construction Festival, where participating teams were intensively finalizing their projects.

A highlight of the visit was a practical workshop led by Professor Wang Xiang from the Department of Architecture, focusing on the integration of modern intelligent construction technologies within traditional Chinese architectural contexts. Students engaged with the Yingzao Fashi (a classic Chinese architectural treatise), mastered the principles of mortise-and-tenon joinery, and utilized 3D-printed components to construct representative bracket sets (puzuo), including column-head, corner, and intercolumniation brackets. This experience allowed students to intimately appreciate the ingenuity of ancient Chinese architectural craftsmanship and the profound heritage of Chinese craftsmanship culture.

During the hands-on session, Vice Dean Philip F. Yuan and Dato' YONG KYOK MING formally signed a collaborative framework agreement. This marked the College' s inaugural partnership with an overseas secondary school, symbolizing a significant stride in aligning with China' s national strategy of “going global” in education, deepening international collaborations, and expanding educational horizons.

This exchange not only showcased CAUP’s academic prowess and cultural depth but also provided Malaysian Chinese independent secondary school students with a valuable platform to engage with Chinese higher education institutions and broaden their global perspectives. Through mutual interaction, both sides have forged a bridge, jointly scripting a new chapter in international educational cooperation.
