The Tongji Students Architecture Award Jury consists of students from the seminar on Contemporary Chinese Architecture and Urban Culture: Architectural Criticism taught by Professor Wilfried Wang and Assistant Professor Mo Wanli. During this semester, the class has selected a longlist of architectural works located within Shanghai based on three architectural categories: public space, renovation and rising stars. 

Through evaluating each project and engaging in productive discussions, a finalized shortlist has been created. These shortlisted projects will be presented and disgussed during an award ceremony held at Bell Court Space of Building B, CAUP Tongji University, with distinguished guests invited to present each award.

The public space category includes projects that are intended for public use and responds to a community need. While developing our definition of public space, we prioritized accessibility and thus decided that the projects must be without obstacles from circulation, private spaces nor additional fees.

The renovation category includes the renovation of standalone buildings intended to provide services for the public or local communities. Functions may include integrated/community services, public restrooms, exhibition halls, and markets. Eligible projects must be under 5,000 square meters in size, completed within the past five years, and must involve comprehensive spatial and structural modifications.

Additionally, this category includes only those projects which have been built within the recent 5 years (from March 31, 2020, to March 31, 2025). Overall, the purpose of the rising stars category is to highlight new talent and emerging ideas in the architectural field.
