Abstract

The Chinese Cities have already entered a historical era, which is an innovative development stage featured with substance growth from stock development and urban quality improvement and vitalization. Urban conservation and regeneration has become the mainstream of urban development and planning. Taking the international references from London and Japan, reviewing various practices such as the Community and Street micro-regeneration in Xuhui District, public space vitalization of Yuyuan Square in Jing’an District, rebuilding of the waterfront along Suchow Creek in Hongkou District, and the Wusong industrial area transformation in Baoshan District, this lecture aims to analyze and consider the roles and effects of diverse stakeholders such as government, market, the public, and designer. Meanwhile, the approaches of intellectual innovation and policy support, which lead to collaboration and negotiation, the organic regeneration, elaborated governance, and high-quality development of the “People’s City” will be regarded as well.
