At the invitation of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Department of Archaeology under Nepal's Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Professor Wu Jiang, former Executive Vice President of Tongji University, professor of the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, participated in the International Academic Committee Meeting on the Kathmandu Valley World Heritage Conservation Zone, held in Nepal on April 25-26.
Serving as an internationally invited expert observer for the United Nations, Professor Wu Jiang attended the entire meeting, during which he listened to reports from various heritage sites in Nepal on their conservation efforts over the past decade following the devastating earthquake. Subsequently, the Department of Archaeology organized a Capacity-Building Training Workshop for World Heritage Site Management from April 27-28. Government officials, technical experts, and project leaders from various heritage sites across Nepal attended the training.
As the sole international training expert designated by UNESCO, Professor Wu Jiang delivered two specialized lectures on heritage conservation planning and management, as well as the adaptive reuse of heritage sites. He patiently addressed questions from the participants. Over the course of the two-day training, Professor Wu Jiang also provided on-site guidance at various World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu and engaged in in-depth and lively discussions with the trainees.
The UNESCO World Heritage Centre, its Nepal Office, and the Department of Archaeology commended the meticulous organization of the training workshop. They expressed profound appreciation for Professor Wu Jiang's guidance on Nepal's cultural heritage conservation, noting that he introduced advanced international concepts and shared China's successful experiences in cultural heritage preservation and urban development. His contributions have actively promoted cultural exchanges between China and Nepal.
