2025 TONGJI CAUP SUMMER SCHOOL NOTICE

Ecology and Humanities 

In the context of global warming and frequent extreme weather, cities, as important carriers of human civilization, are facing unprecedented ecological crisis. The impact of climate change on cities has evolved from a potential threat to a real challenge. The AI-driven sustainability revolution is driving cities to develop more granularly and future-proof. In this context, 2025 Tongji CAUP Summer School will focus on the theme of “Fuxing Island Regeneration Plan from the Perspective of Digital Intelligence, Ecology and Humanities”, and explore how to reproduce and innovate urban space in the context of Shanghai's iconic “One River, One Creek” urban landscape, and how to build a resilient future of harmonious coexistence between man and nature in the context of quantum city construction.

This summer camp will focus on how to design thinking based on nature-based solutions and emphasizing full life cycle. Participants are required to systematically consider multiple dimensions such as urban regeneration, climate adaptation, species conservation, waterfront vitality, health promotion, and future cities, and explore the urban regeneration plan of industrial brownfield sites.

The design base of Tongji CAUP Summer School is Fuxing Island, Yangpu District, with a total area of about 113.3 hectares.

The Location of Fuxing Island

The Tongji CAUP Summer School  will continue the previous practice, with a combination of global open call and special invitation. The invited institutions are the top national and regional architectural planning and design colleges in the world. The program invites students from foreign institutions and domestic institutions. Graduate students majoring in architecture, planning, landscape and other related majors are eligible to apply. Participating students must communicate in English.

Applicants will be selected on the basis of merit and will be judged by a panel of experts. The date of releasing formal invitation: April 30th, 2025

The organization committee covers local accommodation costs including hotels, travel, food and design related of invited students and advisers during the workshop (from June 27th to July 8th), while the travel expense for the round trip should be covered by themselves.
