1. Architecture Discipline at Tongji University

The Architecture discipline at Tongji University is a nationally recognized discipline with a rich history and strong academic foundation. It emphasizes the spirit of rationality in modern architecture, fosters independent and diverse academic characteristics, and promotes a balanced integration of contemporary technology and regional culture. The program is committed to cultivating leaders and pioneers with solid architectural theory and creative skills, a broad professional vision, a strong social responsibility, refined aesthetic taste, holistic thinking, and system integration capabilities to excel in diverse future developments and international competition.

 

2. International Accreditation

Tongji University’s College of Architecture and Urban Planning is one of the largest in terms of undergraduate and graduate admissions. Notably:

· In the 2023 QS Rankings for Architecture and Built Environment, Tongji ranked 12th globally.

· Tongji’s architecture program received accreditation from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in 2023.

 

3. Program Structure and Curriculum

The program is 2.5 years long, full-time, and all courses are taught in English. It is open to non-Chinese graduates with a bachelor’s degree from institutions recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education. Online applications are accepted from November 2024 to April 2025 (exact dates as per the 2025 international student enrollment guide of Tongji University).

3.1 Program Objectives

The program aims to cultivate high-level professionals and leaders with solid expertise, a strong foundation in theory and specialized knowledge in architecture, a robust capacity for creatively solving practical problems, and the ability to engage in cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural exchanges, coupled with a broad international perspective.

3.2 Program Specializations

· Architectural Design: Focuses on the fundamental principles, theories, objective rules, and creative aspects of architectural design, as well as design skills, techniques, and expression.

· Urban Design: Studies the development patterns and characteristics of urban forms. By arranging public spaces and building clusters, it aims to harmonize the use and form of city components, showcasing the quality, character, and value of urban public environments.

· Interior Design: Based on the building’s function, location, and standards, this specialization uses material and technological means along with aesthetic principles to create eco-friendly, efficient, comfortable, and unique internal environments that meet both material and spiritual needs.

· Architectural Heritage Conservation: Investigates the fundamental theories and methods for preserving, restoring, and utilizing architectural heritage and historical environments, aiming to ensure the continuity and renewal of architectural heritage.

3.3 Curriculum Structure

The curriculum comprises four components: core courses, elective courses, mandatory sessions, and supplementary courses. A minimum of 40 credits is required, including at least five credits for general courses, 16 credits for core courses, 8 credits for elective courses (including at least 1 course across disciplines, 2 credits), and 11 credits for mandatory sessions (e.g., thesis writing, topic selection, professional practice, Tongji University advanced lectures, mid-term assessments).

3.4 Core Courses

The core curriculum includes:

·  Design Courses: Architectural Design III, Special Design IV, etc.

· Advanced Courses: Frontiers in Architectural Discipline, Architectural Theory, Criticism and Practice, Discussion on Digital Architecture Theory, History, and Methodology, etc.

· Fundamental Theory and Applied Technology Courses: Principles of Architectural Design, Advances in Architectural and Urban Science Research, Modern Housing Typology, Formation of Modern Cities, Urban Design Critique and Case Studies, Urban Design Analysis Techniques, Thesis Topic Selection and Writing Methodology, etc.

· China-Specific Courses: Contemporary Chinese Architecture and Urban Culture, Topics in Chinese Architectural History, Introduction to Research on Chinese Contemporary Architecture: Paradigms and Themes, History and Theory of Modern Chinese Urban Architecture, Comparative Studies of German and Chinese Architecture, Chinese Culture and Form-making, etc.

 

4. Admission and Application Information

· Eligibility: Non-Chinese citizens who meet all relevant entry requirements set by the Chinese Ministry of Education and Tongji University.

· Tuition Fee: 100,000 RMB per year

一、 同济大学建筑学科背景

二、 培养方案与课程体系

同济大学建筑与城市规划学院建筑学硕士专业英文项目,学制2.5年,全日制课程,全英文教学。面向全球符合中国教育部认可的具有本科学历的非中国籍毕业生申请。2024年11月至2025年4月进行网上申报(具体日期以同济大学2025年国际学生硕士招生简章为准)。

2.1 培养目标

本项目着力培养具有良好专业素养的高层次应用型人才和专业领导者:掌握建筑学专业领域坚实的基础理论和系统的专业知识,具备较强的创造性地解决实际问题的能力,能从事跨领域和跨文化交流,拥有宽广国际视野。

2.2培养方向

方向1: 建筑设计方向,主要研究建筑设计的基本原理和理论、客观规律和创造性构思,建筑设计的技能、手法和表达;

方向2:城市设计方向,主要研究城市形态的发展规律和特点,通过公共空间和建筑群体的安排使城市各组成部分在使用和形式上相互协调,展现城市公共环境的品质、特色和价值,从而激发城市活力、满足文化传承和经济发展等方面的社会需求;

方向3:室内设计方向,主要根据建筑物的使用性质、所处环境和相应标准,运用物质技术手段和建筑美学原理,创造生态环保、高效舒适、优美独特、满足人们物质和精神生活需要的内部环境;

方向4:建筑遗产保护设计方向,主要研究建筑遗产与历史环境保存、修复、利用的基本理论与设计方法,通过建筑遗产的价值评估与特征分析,建筑病理研究,建筑遗产的保护与利用设计等手段,实现建筑遗产的传承与再生。

2.3 课程体系

项目的课程体系由学位课、非学位课、必修环节和补修课程四部分组成。全日制专业学位硕士研究生至少应修满40学分。其中公共学位课至少5学分,专业学位课至少16学分,非学位课至少8学分(含跨学院或跨学科课程至少1门,2学分),必修环节11学分(论文写作与学术规范、论文选题、专业实践、同济高等讲堂、中期考核等)。

2.4 核心课程

设计课程:建筑设计III,专题设计IV等

前沿课程:建筑学学科前沿动态,建筑理论、批评与实践,数字建筑学的理论、历史与方法讨论等

基础理论与应用技术课程:建筑设计原理,建筑技术科学基础,现代住宅类型学,现代城市的形成,城市设计评论与案例研究,城市设计分析技术,论文选题与写作方法等

中国专题课程:当代中国建筑与城市文化,中国建筑史专题,中国当代建筑研究导论:范式与主题,中国近现代城市建筑的历史与理论,中德建筑比较,中国文化与造型等

 

三、 招生与录取方式

报名条件:非中国籍学生,且满足中国和同济大学入学的其他相关要求
