<Agriculture and cities: insights from recent research on land policies and urban planning in France and Europe>

His talk will cover two areas of research in which he is involved. Firstly, he will look at land policies to limit urban sprawl on farmland in France and Europe. In particular, he will draw on the recent development of these policies addressed in a collective publication co-authored with colleagues from 5 European countries (France, Germany, Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg) on the current state of the ‘no net land take’ objective. Secondly, he will report on research carried out in France on the relationship between cities and agriculture, and its implications for urban planning. He will report on the results of several recent projects carried out in different French regions on the place of agriculture in urban planning (local land-use plans, building permits for farmers in peri-urban areas). In particular, his talk will highlight the challenges raised by the diversification of agricultural activities.
