On the evening of October 21, as part of the guest lecture series for the Fall semester of 2024 organized by the Department of Architecture, College of Architecture and Urban Planning at Tongji University, a special academic lecture and seminar titled Snøhetta: Places for People was held in the Bell Hall of Building B on campus. The lecturer were Robert Greenwood, Partner and Asia-Pacific Director of Snøhetta, and Gong Cheng, Director of Snøhetta China. They shared the firm's design practices with a focus on creating human-centric spaces.

The lecture were convened by Wang Yi, Director of the Department of Architecture. At the beginning of the event, Professor Wang Zhendong, Chairman of the College council, and Director Wang Yi delivered speeches, extending a warm welcome to architects Robert Greenwood and Gong Cheng for their visit to Tongji. The entire lecture and seminar were presided over by Deputy Director Liu Kan of the Department of Architecture. Liu Kan hosted the lecture.

Snøhetta is an interdisciplinary and dialogue-driven design firm whose research and practice encompass architecture, landscape, interior, art, product, graphic, and digital design. Mr. Robert Greenwood and Mr. Gong Cheng introduced the firm's projects worldwide, spanning urban design, architecture, and down to interior and small-scale visual design. Regarding the upcoming completion of the Shanghai Grand Opera House project in the next two years, the two architects elaborated on the conceptual design inspired by the Chinese folding fan, as well as the multiple adjustments made during the project's implementation in response to the Huangpu River landscape and public activities for citizens. Mr. Robert Greenwood, Partner and Asia-Pacific Director of Snøhetta, delivered an academic presentation.

Three chief architects from Tongji University Architectural Design and Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd., Zeng Qun, Ren Lizhi, and Jiang Limin, along with several architects from the Academic Department of Architectural Creation of the Shanghai Architectural Society, participated in the academic discussion session after the lecture. They engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as maintaining design innovation. The evening's special lecture and seminar concluded successfully in a compact and intellectually rich academic atmosphere.
