The Exhibition of Le Corbusier Model officially opened

On September 19, 2024, the Le Corbusier Architectural Model Exhibition officially opened at the exhibition hall of Building B, College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University. Themed Pioneer of the Modern Movement: Le Corbusier, the exhibition aims to showcase the Architectural master's journey from his early creations to the heyday of Modernism through a series of models of his completed and uncompleted works. Curated and produced by RT+Q Architects from Singapore, the exhibition is hosted by the Department of Architecture, College of Architecture and Urban Planning, and the Academic Committee of Architectural Criticism, Architectural Society of China, with generous support from the Le Corbusier Foundation.

 

September 19 afternoon, an academic lecture was held in the Bell Hal, presided over by Professor Lu Yongyi. Professor Chang Qing, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered the opening remarks, affirming the significance of Le Corbusier research and Sino-French exchanges for Tongji's architectural studies. Mr. Liu Lei, the China representative of the Sino-French Institute of Architecture, senior engineer, and first-grade registered architect, presented a speech titled Le Corbusier and Auguste Perret, analyzing the intellectual connections and academic debates between Corbusier and his mentor Perret, and presenting the lineage and innovations of French modern architects. Associate Professor Qian Feng from the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University, spoke on Understanding the Three Threads of Le Corbusier through the Book 'Ideas and Forms', delving into Corbusier's architectural philosophy and its profound influence on contemporary architectural practice.

 

Subsequently, the round-table discussion, moderated by Assistant Professor Jiang Jiawei, featured Professor Lu Yongyi, Mr. Liu Lei, Associate Professor Qian Feng, and Associate Professor Liu Kan, who engaged in discussions on Le Corbusier's architectural thoughts and practices. Topics of discussion included the dissemination of Le Corbusier's ideas and works in China, the recognition and learning of Le Corbusier by modern and contemporary Chinese architects, and the stylistic differences and distinct intellectual influences of the four masters of Modernism. The round-table discussion provided a platform for participants and audience members to exchange ideas and reflections.

 

The Opening Ceremony and Lecture of the Le Corbusier Architectural Model Exhibition not only serves as a retrospective of Le Corbusier's architectural legacy but also as a profound reflection on modern architectural education and practice. The exhibition will run until October 11.
