Abstract:

With China’s rapid urbanization, though there are objective laws in shaping the urban form, the overwhelming force that has influence on the form doesn’t subject to aesthetics, but dominated by the political, economic and cultural factors representing the social power. Combined with the main theories studying contemporary western urban space, especially the neo-Marxist, neo-Weberian and the globalization of urban space, this course is about to analyze three typical cases of Shanghai Urban Renewal, so to reflect the false outcome of Decision Follows Capital, Form Follows Profits, and thereby explaining the dynamic mechanism of urban spatial evolution.
