The Joint Agreement for a Double Degree in Architecture/Urban Planning between Politecnico di Milano (Italy) and the Tongji University (P.R.China) was signed in July 28th, 2011, and came into effect since 2012. With the efforts by the teachers and students from both sides, this program, generally developed into a mature international exchange platform, which has already run for three years. Nearly 50 postgraduate students, Italian or Chinese, have involved in and benefited from this program. Both universities are capable of providing high-quality English courses, covering almost all advanced research fields of architecture and urban planning. The students participating are encouraged to develop their personal perspectives and their own interdisciplinary research skills.

Tongji-PoliMi Dual Master Degree program is a three-year plan. The students spend their 1st year in the home university, and then study in the host university for the 2nd year. Before returning to home university, the students are expected not only to complete designed curriculum & study plan, but also defend their master’s thesis in accordance with regulations and legislations. In the third year, after coming back from the host university, the students are supposed to continue their study and complete the thesis defense for the home university. 

After successful completing of the whole study curriculum of both institutes, also the requirements for the master thesis, the students will be awarded degrees of both universities. For students major in architecture, they will receive “master of Architecture” diploma from Tongji University and the equivalent Italian Laurea Magistrale in Architecture of Politecnico di Milano. For students major in urban planning, they will receive “Master in Urban Planning” of Tongji University and the equivalent Italian Laurea Magistrale “Master in Urban Planning and Policy Design” from Politecnico di Milano.
