On October 20, 2016, The "Future City Laboratory" inauguration ceremony was held at C1 Conference Room of Tongji University, College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP). Around 30 teachers and students from Tongji University and the Politecnico di Milano (Polimi) attended the ceremony. The opening ceremony was hosted by deputy dean Li Xiangning, then dean Li Zhenyu welcomed dean Ilaria Valente, Polimi school of Architecture and Prof. Stefano Boeri for their attending on behalf of CAUP. Later, Academician Zheng Shiling reviewed the history of the exchange between CAUP and the Italian institutions of higher learning; Dean Valente introduced the basic situation of the Politecnico di Milano and expressed gratitude to the invitation, then Prof. Stefano Boeri and Prof. Li Xiangning, the directors of "Future City Laboratory” both introduced the aim of the establishment and developmental goal of the laboratory. Finally, academician Zheng Shiling, dean Li Zhenyu, dean Valente and Prof. Boeri inaugurate the "Future City Lab".
