Historic First: Academician Wu Zhiqiang Elected CAETS Committee Leader

BEIJING, March 13, 2025, In a historic moment for global engineering collaboration, Academician, Professor from Tongji university, CAUP, Wu Zhiqiang was unanimously elected Vice Chair of the Committee on Cooperation (CC) under the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS) during its virtual meeting held on the evening of March 13, 2025 (Beijing Time). The appointment was formally announced by CAETS President Academician Lucas Noldus, marking a pioneering achievement for Chinese scholars in assuming leadership roles within CAETS.

 

CAETS, founded in 1978 as the umbrella organization for national engineering academies worldwide, now represents 33 member academies across the globe. Recognized as the premier international collaborative platform for national engineering academies, CAETS drives cross-border dialogue and innovation in engineering and technology. Since joining CAETS in 1997, the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) has played an increasingly pivotal role in advancing global scientific governance and technological cooperation. 


Academician Wu's election is a historic milestone for China's engineering community, reflecting both his outstanding academic leadership and the rising global influence of Chinese engineering. A long-standing advocate for international collaboration, Wu has represented CAE at numerous CAETS annual conferences, committee meetings, and working groups, delivering keynote speeches that spotlight China's technological achievements and innovative strategies to global audiences. His efforts have significantly elevated international recognition of China's contributions to engineering progress.


Beyond his academic leadership, Wu has spearheaded bilateral and multilateral partnerships, including Sino-Swedish, Sino-German, Sino-Korean, Sino-Singaporean, Sino-British, Sino-Dutch, and trilateral US-UK-China forums. These initiatives have fostered collaboration in engineering education, research, and policy development, solidifying China's role as a bridge-builder in global scientific diplomacy.


As one of CAETS' most active standing committees, the Committee on Cooperation focuses on enhancing the global visibility of engineering and technological advancements while engaging policymakers and the public in dialogue on critical engineering challenges. Academician Wu's new role positions him to further amplify China's voice in shaping international engineering agendas.
