On the morning of September 10, 2024, the 50th-anniversary thematic exhibition of the French architecture studio AS, titled Tracé Bleu (Blueprint), opened at the exhibition hall on the first floor of Building C, College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University. The series of exhibitions, jointly curated by the French AS Architecture Studio and the Paris 104 Art Center, was presented in Shanghai in collaboration with the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University. The exhibition will run until October 13.
The exhibition brings together significant urban planning and architectural cases from the studio's global portfolio, while inviting multiple artists to combine their imagination and creativity with the architects' working methods, offering a unique perspective on the theme. The exhibition aims to provoke viewers' thoughts on different ways of living on this planet.
The exhibition is divided into three themes: Re.source, Re.generate, and Re.act. The carefully selected works on display represent the studio's exploration of an ecological future, highlighting the diversity and key concepts of current and future practices, including: protecting ecosystems, reorganizing brownfields and interstitial zones, designing spaces with evolutionary capabilities, integrating uncertainties, investing in public resources, co-governing with biology, building with restraint, and assessing long-term effects. These snippets are supported by practices from around the globe and presented through a combination of photographs, videos, and models, showcasing some of the design methodologies the studio has contributed to Tracé Bleu (Blueprint).
Krijn de Koning created a highly iconic installation at the entrance; Serge Bloch, with his unique style of humor and grotesqueness, depicted themes such as the water cycle, resilience, co-creation by residents, and considering architecture as a resource. He also produced three animations specifically for the exhibition, each corresponding to a physical model in front of it, intended to bring the discussion of the themes into the realm of imagination.
