Digital Twins for Cities: Rethink beyond Practice
The construction of digital twin cities was written into the Outline of the Fourteenth Five-Year Plan for the National Economic and Social Development of the People's Republic of China and Vision 2035 in 2021, and is gradually becoming an important part of the development of China's digital economy. Digital twin cities are first and foremost centred around human needs. Since the essence of the digital twin is simulation, and different people have different simulation needs and ways, then the digital twin city will be based on the different needs of different people, and the formation of a variety of digital twin process and results. At the same time, people have their commonality. The digital twin city also imitates the ability of human perception, cognition, deduction, and operation, corresponding to the four stages of data aggregation, model construction, scene interpretation, and application feedback, and strengthens and empowers the virtual world in a digital way to help individuals and society accelerate their dialogue with the real world. society to accelerate the dialogue with the real world.
Dr Tao Yang
Dr. Yang is an associate professor at the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, deputy editor-in-chief of Urban Design, editorial board member of Engineering, the journal of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, member of the International Spatial Syntax Steering Committee, and deputy director of the Digital Twin and Future City Committee of the China Society for the Study of Urban Science. He has published more than 170 papers in English and Chinese, 10 books, 5 invention patents, and 6 standards. He has presided over major national projects such as the planning and construction (BIM) management platform of Xiongan New Area, the urban design of the start-up area of the administrative office district of the vice centre of Beijing City (completed), as well as the construction of urban information model (CIM) platforms in Shanghai City, Suzhou City, Ma Wan in Qianhai City of Shenzhen, and the South Central Axis of Beijing City, etc. He has been awarded the gold medal of the National Excellent Project of Geographic Information Industry. It has been awarded the Gold Medal for Excellent Engineering in National Geographic Information Industry, the Special Award for Urban Design of Architectural Society of China, and the National Award for Excellent Urban Planning and Design.
