NODE Architecture & Urbanism (NODE) was established in 2004. As one of the most influential independent architectural design firms in South China, it has received extensive attention at home and abroad. Founded and led by Principal Architect, Doreen Heng LIU, NODE is currently a team of about 20 architects and designers.

Based in Shenzhen and Hong Kong for years, LIU and her studio have been conducting diversified architectural and urban design practices in the Pearl River Delta and wider region. Focusing on urbanspace and public life, insisting on ontological research and practice, pursuing innovation on foundations of rigorous pragmatism, exploring architectural concepts’ own logic in relation to openness and compatibility. Through inter-disciplinary interaction and stimulation, the studio maintains its forward-looking and experimental nature in architectural design practice. In recent years, the main directions of design practice have included: urban design, urban renewal and reconstruction, cross-border infrastructure research and design practice, public cultural and educational buildings, small experimental buildings, etc.

NODE is an abbreviation for ‘Nansha Original Design.’ It can also be understood as the point in which different vectors – possibilities, tendencies, and events – intersect. It is neither a point of departure or of arrival, much less a fixed entity. It is located from beginning to end in ever-changing fluxes and dynamics.
