GENERAL INTRODUCTION

Craft is one of the bases of architecture. Our hands should never be forgotten although nowadays most of construction may not be done by hand. It is materiality that makes architecture transcend the mere chronology of styles from classicism, modernism to post-modernism. The materiality of architecture is defined by material, construction and craft, all of which are integrated into a material-oriented intellectual system. Craft sets up a direct relation of human and architecture, in which craft is raised to the level of material civilization and becomes a kind of artistic conception. Nowadays, though industry construction has already taken command, we need to and still can understand technology through craft.
