在今天这个数字时代，我们如何设计与我们设计什么一样重要。本次演讲将展示如何利用应用研究来解决现实世界的设计问题并回答持续的学术问题。Cedric Price曾经提出问题：“技术是答案，但问题是什么？”为了提供可能的答案，我们将从历史的角度和未来的展望，考察我们职业在当前环境中的不断演变的角色。每个新的项目和研究机会都提供了挑战既定实践、提出新问题和开发创新解决方案的机会。这创造了一种相互有益的关系，增强和巩固了设计领域。

In today's digital age, how we design is just as important as what we design. This lecture will demonstrate how applied research is utilized to solve real-world design problems and address ongoing academic inquiries.

Cedric Price once posed the question, Technology is the answer, but what is the question? To offer possible answers, we will examine the evolving role of our profession in the current context, with a historical perspective and a future outlook.

Every new project and research opportunity provides a chance to challenge established practices, pose new questions, and develop innovative solutions. This creates a mutually beneficial relationship that enhances and strengthens the field of design.

Klaas De Rycke是一位比利时土木工程师和建筑师，目前担任Bollinger+Grohmann Holding AG的合伙人，法国凡尔赛建筑学院研究员、高级讲师，英国UCL巴特莱特建筑学院副教授。他擅长利用数学和复杂数字方法进行结构和制造优化，并善于在设计工作中运用数字工具和人工智能。他曾参与多个国际项目，包括与SANAA合作的卢浮宫-伦斯博物馆和与Coop Himmelb(l)au合作的Lyon Confluences博物馆。在他的教育活动中，他与学生和Bollinger+Grohmann同事合作，开展涉及参数化设计、数字制造和新技术的项目。他获得了众多荣誉和奖项，包括巴伐利亚州特别奖和Vito Di Bari奖。

Klaas De Rycke is a Belgian civil engineer and architect who currently serves as a partner at Bollinger+Grohmann Holding AG, as well as a researcher and senior lecturer at the Architecture School of Versailles and an associate professor at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. He specializes in structural and manufacturing optimizations using mathematical and complex numerical approaches and is adept at utilizing digital tools and artificial intelligence in his design work. He has worked on several international projects, including the Louvre-Lens museum with SANAA and the Musée des confluences with Coop Himmelb(l)au in Lyon.  In his educational activities, he collaborates with students and Bollinger+Grohmann colleagues on projects involving parametric designs, digital fabrications, and new technologies. He has received numerous honors and awards, including the Bavarian State Special Prize and the Vito Di Bari Award.

“数字未来”（DigitalFUTURES）自2011年以来，由同济大学建筑与城市规划学院（CAUP）与上海建筑数字建造工程技术研究中心（SFAB）发起，依托DigitalFUTURES协会，国际建筑师协会，中国建筑学会，国家土建结构预制装配化工程技术研究中心，上海市建筑学会等学术平台，联合全球知名学者、建筑师、设计师及相关企、事业单位和学术媒体共同组织，形成了线上、线下一体化的教育平台。活动涵盖讲座、会议、工作坊和展览等。如今，DigitalFUTURES作为一个全球性建筑知识交流共同体，以www.digitalfutures.world为平台，鼓励全球建筑知识的传承与创新、合作与交流，重点关注数字化设计理论、技术以及人工智能算法、机器人建造等在建成环境领域的科学研究。
